Mainly because you do not have room to handle the boost spikes with the manual boost controller (and it will spike). With an electronic boost controller: it's still a call, depends on the timing and fuel in your tune and what heat range plugs you are running, normally 14psi is safe with the right tune, and needs to be turned down a bit in the summer to prevent detonation on our crappy cali fuel. Probably best advice is run the car with the factory system, save and get another electronic boost controller, better than the bill you will face when you blow your motor. -- J
